Episode 73: Dawn of the Dead (2004)

In this episode:

Listen NOW!

A nurse, a policeman, a young married couple, a salesman and other survivors of a worldwide plague that is producing aggressive, flesh-eating zombies, take refuge in a mega Midwestern shopping mall.

Our predictions: Will it hold up?

Ryan-

Ashley- Yes.

Things we discussed in this episode:

– We go off to Tangent City early this episode to discuss the rise and fall of spoof movies.

-We talk about fast zombies versus slow zombies.

-We talk about 1978’s Dawn of the Dead. (ALOT)

-“8 Miles.” – Ryan (The lesser known sequel to Eminem’s film “8 Mile.”)

-Ryan fits another “Scary Barry” joke in there.

-Ashley is trying to remember the MTV produced Othello  movie. It was called “O” and starred Julia Stiles and Mekhi Phifer.  Ryan gets it confused with Carmen: A Hip Hopera which he also starred in with Beyonce.

-Apparently James Gunn wrote this.

-The opening credit scene of this movie reminded us of 2020…obviously exaggerated.

-We discuss what makes a good zombie apocolypse mall.

-We question the passage of time in this film.

-We discuss how some people are good at adjusting to a stressful event, while others aren’t. (Clearly shown in 2020, amirite?)

-We talk about the larger cast in this remake and how its purpose is for a high body count.

-Spoiler Alert for anyone that hasn’t seen the originial Dawn of the Dead.  (Seriously watch it already!)

-The larger cast did make it quite easy to pick a winner for the Cagey award.

We apologize for the last quarter of the podcast in the background you can hear barking.  It wasn’t Rupert or Quinn, but our annoying neighbor dogs.

-We dicuss our halloween costumes as kids and even read some answers we got on Instagram!

-We also talk about trying to Trick or Treat in cold weather states.

Award Winners:

Ryan: The “Cagey”– Kim Poirier ( Monica)

The “Hanxy”– Michael Kelly (CJ)

Ashley:  The “Cagey” – Lindy Booth (Nicole)

The “Hanxy”– Sarah Polley (Ana)

Does it hold up?

Ryan: YES!

Ashley: Also yes!
