Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story

imdb.com

A group of misfits enter a Las Vegas dodgeball tournament in order to save their cherished local gym from the onslaught of a corporate health fitness chain.

Things we discussed in this episode:

  • Ryan has to read the movie summary for this episode because Ashley got the giggles. Check out the blooper at the end of the episode (1:09:20).
  • 2004 was a good year. We discuss the joys of being teenagers with cars and money, but no real bills.
  • Ryan coins the phrase, “Vince Vaughn factor.”

Our Predictions: Ashley and Ryan agree that the movie will not hold up.

  • Ryan thinks that Stephen Root is handsome. News to Ashley.
  • We discuss Patton Oswalt’s voice-over cameos and go on a bit of ride to Tangent City about voice acting.
  • We mention Lori Beth Denberg’s cameo in the film, discuss All That. We talk about the live shows that she does with Danny Tamberelli (The Adventures of Pete & Pete) called Nostalgia Personified. Which is not a podcast like Ashley mentioned but was spawned from Danny’s podcast with on-screen big brother Michael C Maronna called The Adventures of Danny & Mike.
  • Tangent City Alert: We discuss not wanting to get invested in new shows in fear of them being cancelled. Then later discuss watching Hulu’s The Great starring Elle Fanning and Nicolas Hoult, a brand new show.
  • We bring up the trailers from our DVD copy of the movie including:
    • Girl Next Door
    • Taxi
    • Pauly Shore is Dead
  • Should we have a Pauly Shore week? (We already decided yes on this one.)
  • We disagree about Bernice, who Ryan is adamant is played by a guy, but Ashley thinks it’s just a tall girl with fake mustache and arm hair. (After doing very little research, Ashley is correct. Bernice is played by a 12 year old (at the time) actress named Hayley C Rosales.
  • Tangent City Alert: Ashley can’t remember the girl group that guest starred on an episode of Boy Meets World. Google says it’s Nobody’s Angel. Okay Google you win this time.

Ryan: The “Cagey”– Rip Torn (Patches)

The “Hanxy”– Jason Bateman (Pepper Brooks).

Ashley:  The “Cagey” – David Joel Moore (Owen).
